 Ride on a Running landmark

You might have seen the cable cars in some movies or a TV show. In San Francisco, the cable cars are more like a symbol of the city; some also regard these as the landmark of the city. These cable cars are not used a lot by the locals due to their high fares and small travel network. However, these are always flooded with tourists. According to the statistics, more than 9 million tourists and visitors ride the cable cars per year. The cable car takes you to the well-known places and streets of San Francisco. If you plan to take a ride of the cable car, be prepared because the long queues await you but the wait is worth it.

You can enjoy three different routes of the cable cars and the sights they offer. Here is a glimpse at the three lines:

  • Powell/Hyde:

This line ends up near to the Ghirardeli Square where you can shop and eat at different world-class eateries. You can take an exit along the world’s most crooked street called the Lombard Street or go to the top to enjoy an amazing view of the Alcatraz Island. Across the street from the end of this line, you can find Café Buena Vista which is known as the founding place of Irish coffee. If you are not much of a shopaholic then, instead of Ghirardelli square’s huge shopping malls you can take rest at the Hyde Pier or the San Francisco Maritime Museum.

  • Powell/Mason:

To enjoy a postcard like view of the crooked Lombard Street you need to opt for this line which exits at the base of this street. This cable car line ends the journey at the North Beach which is at a walking distance from the city’s Fisherman Wharf at Pier 39. If your tastebuds are teasing you when you end the ride, then the best place to drop by is Keneedy’s Irish Pub and Curry House which is not only a pub and a gaming arcade but also provides aromatic Indian cuisine. Furthermore, you can also find a music venue nearby or get the famous sourdough bread from across the street.

  • California/ Van Ness:

This ride is one of the most lavish ones as it takes you through hill tops to the summit of Nob Hill, where you can find luxury hotels and amazing nightclubs along with awe-inspiring views of the city. You can choose the hotel that suits your taste. You can either enjoy a breathtaking view from the top floor of a hotel with an awesome glass of martini or have some comfortable time in the spa of another hotel. You can also shop on this line and on your way down, the cable car line takes you to Van Ness Street where it stops and goes back to the other direction. This line does not have any turning back because there is grip on both sides of the cable car on this line.
